The Metamorphosis Of Narcissus finds Turk exploring the Narcissus myth, in which the hero, falling for his own reflection, becomes love sick and starves himself to death – a narcissus flower subsequently growing from his corpse. Concerned with how this myth has been repeatedly appropriated in a perpetual metamorphosis throughout art history, The Metamorphosis Of Narcissus in particular references the Dali painting of the same name which shows two eggs (the original and its reflection) with a narcissus flower sprouting from one. Engaging with the death and re-birth theme at the heart of the story, The Metamorphosis of Narcissus gives new life to dead flowers by transforming them into art, while also showing beauty in the presence of decay – an ephemeral moment eternally frozen.
