In 1994, Turk began the project of working with IKB (International Klein Blue) Yves Klein’s patented blue paint, reproducing this in paintings and sculptures. When Turk appropriates an artist’s identity, he doesn’t simply copy the fashion of their work: he performs their work and re-enacts their legends – from how their work was produced, to personifying intimate details of their biographies. When Klein was married to Rotraut Uecker in 1962 he wore an eight-pointed Maltese cross – a symbol of his Rosicrucian faith. In honour of Klein, and as part of his appropriative performance, Turk wore this same cross at his own wedding in 2012.
