In Fact

5 Dec 17 - 29 Apr 18

Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art

In Fact focused on the concepts of representation and the act of referring. The show included works of different media and investigated models of representation through the the act of referencing.

Seventeen works were presented in the exhibition which aimed to re-question and revive the concept of representation; a subject that had been heavily interrogated since the 80s, after analogies of Simulacra and appropriation became a medium in contemporary art.

Gavin Turk’s contribution, a giant blue plaque, has value only in referencing its creator rather than its own isolated in isolation; the hollow dress titled State of Being by Chiharu Shiota indescribably bundles up a reality that we know exists; and Tracey Emin's photograph Sometimes… questions the meanings we ascribe to concepts.

Other featured artists included: İhsan Oturmak, Bengü Karaduman, Volkan Kızıltunç's, Cindy Sherman, Hale Tenger, and Özlem Günyol.
