Museums at Night
16 May 13
Bristol Museum and Art Gallery
On Thursday 16 May, 2013, Gavin Turk collaborated with Bristol Museum & Art Gallery to take part in Museums at Night, Culture24's festival of inspiring after hours cultural events in museums, galleries and heritage sites. The museum hosted an Egyptian Extravaganza inspired by an exhibition from the British Museum, Pharaoh: King of Egypt.
It was a mystical evening of Egyptian-themed encounters with real scarab beetles, Egyptian makeup, Arabic music and dance performances and storytelling. On the night Turk revealed his own quirky interpretation of a magic flying carpet experience by exploring the mystical power of the pyramid, linking ancient and modern Egyptian worlds.
