A black Honda car boot with a &lsquo;GT&rsquo; sticker, signed and dated by the artist for the Art Car Boot Fair 2007. This artwork was first created as an elaborate ruse. In the summer of 2007 Turk was invited to take part in The Art Car Boot Fair in Brick Lane, East London - An annual jamboree where artists take over the marketplace selling their bizarre wares. In this twist on the English car boot fair phenomena (where people sell their unwanted goods from the back of cars), Turk decided to take the brief at face value and literally sell a motley collection of second-hand car boots selected and adorned with the artists signature flamboyantly embellished in permanent marker. A battered relic of the motor car, itself a symbol of income and social status hangs as an artifact separated from its function. A useless flap hanging on the wall like instant archaeology as an epoch struggles to come to terms with its out of control consumer appetite. The back end of a once noble steed becomes a Moose Head on the wall.

Having previously made work with tea stains on watercolour paper, Turk produced a limited edition run of signed Rich Tea biscuits for the 2006 Art Car Boot Fair, the original biscuit having been both signed and bitten by the artist. He views tea (and biscuits) as essential to the clich&eacute;d cultural history of Britain as a tea-drinking nation, as much a part of the landscape as Constable, Henry Moore and William Morris a kind of &lsquo;Rusk&rsquo;inian romanticism. Importantly, the biscuits have a bite out of them. &ldquo;The bite disrupted the circularity of the biscuit, it was almost like the loss of innocence, the bite of the Apple&rdquo;

A paint brush and two rollers dipped in emulsion and left in a paint tray, presented in a museum grade vitrine made of mahogany and glass.Having recognized white emulsion paint as the background canvas &ndash; the theatre backdrop of contemporary art &ndash; the Artist then put his mind to the tool that is used to apply the paint. This first piece was a wooden museum vitrine made in 1995 called &lsquo;Paint, Two Rollers and a Brush&rsquo;. This was a homage to the cultural significance or archeological importance of the gallery decorator and his tools. Displayed in the cabinet were several used objects straight out of the recently repainted gallery exactly as their title suggests. They are fresh and curious in their isolation. Looking at them through the imaginary eyes of an alien they appear angular and precise. Specialised tools for a specialized job. The most angular and specialized of all is the paint roller. A bent and twisted mark-making tool that covers a wall in white faster than you can blink. Cast in bronze &ndash; the traditional material of &lsquo;Great Sculpture&rsquo; &ndash; the tool then becomes heavy and significant, instead of light and useful, allowing the viewer to study the detail of the everyday object: the tufts of the sheepskin roller, the ingeniously designed bent handle.
